Bo Bice music biography continued...
on November 1, 1975, Bice released his first CD in 1995 with his band Purge. He played in several other bands before auditioning for American Idol in 2005, where his early performance of The Allman Brothers Band's "Whipping Post" drew accolades from the judges and established him as one of the favorites in the competition. Bice made it to the top 3, and took a huge risk by singing an obscure song called "In a Dream" a cappella. The judges loved it and Bice was sent into the finale opposite favorite Carrie Underwood, who would go on to be crowned American Idol. Signed to RCA Records, Bice's first single, released in June 2005, was his version of "Inside Your Heaven". The single debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and #1 on the Billboard Hot Single Sales chart. After a number of concert and television appearances, Bice issued his debut album The Real Thing in December 2005. It opened at #4, the seventh-highest opening for a debut album by an American Idol finalist. The album eventually went gold, but Bice was dropped by RCA. His second album, entitled See the Light, was released in October 2007 on Bice's Independent label, Sugar Money/StratArt. The CD was available exclusively through Walmart, and as a digital download. From the album, the music video "Witness" spent three consecutive weeks at #1 on VH1 "Top 20 Countdown" in December 2007 to close out the year. During that same period of time, "Witness" was ranked #2 on VH1 Video on Demand, and his "See the Light" was ranked #1 Album on the VH1 site. In February 2008, Bice traveled to Kuwait and Afghanistan to perform for U.S. troops deployed in the region, giving back to the country that enabled him to become a star.
