Jim Vallance for other artists notably Kiss, Prism, and Loverboy. His big breakthrough as a recording artist was with the album Cuts Like a Knife in 1983. Throughout his career he has released 14 albums, several of them certified platinum, was inducted into the Canada Walk of Fame, was awarded as Officer of the Order of Canada for his philanthropic efforts and was honored the Order of British Columbia for his contribution to music.
Adams was born on November 5, 1959 in Kingston, Ontario however often traveled throughout Europe and the Middle East during his childhood following his diplomat parents. Soon after settling back in Canada, Bryan dropped out of high school at 15 years of age. In 1978, Adams met former Prism drummer Jim Vallence and formed a partnership co-writing and co-producing songs. They recorded demos using Bryan's vocals and eventually sent them to A&M Records where they were signed a songwriting and production deal with the publishing division Irving-Almo Music. They composed numerous songs for various popular artists receiving much acclaim.
His first solo album Bryan Adams was released in 1980, he then embarked on his first tour across Canada to promote his debut. His follow up You Want It You Got It in 1981 was his first US release. The single "Lonely Nights" peaked at number three on the rock charts. 1983's Cuts Like a Knife produced four hit singles marking the foundation of his thriving career. Reckless was quickly issued the following year and has become his most successful album to date generating six top 40 hits such as "Summer of '69", "Heaven", "Run to You", "One Night Love Affair", and his duet with Tina Turner "It's Only Love".
Into the Fire, released in 1987 was also a big success and was the last album completely written by Adams and Vallence.
He returned to the studio releasing the number one album Waking Up the Neighbours in 1991. "Everything I Do (I Do It For You) was an enormous hit topping the charts worldwide in 1991 and 1992. The song, also featured in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, dominated the charts at number one in the US for seventeen weeks and for sixteen weeks in the UK. It also earned a Grammy Award in 1992 for Best Song Written Specifically For a Motion Picture or Television. Adams released his first greatest hits collection So Far So Good which included new track "Please Forgive Me".
Adams launched a continuous streak of well received albums beginning with the raw rock influenced 18 til I Die issued in 1996. Although only generating one Top 40 hit with "Let's Make a Night to Remember" the album surprisingly went platinum. The MTV unplugged album was released a year later in 1997, On a Day Like Today in 1998 and his second greatest hits The Best of Me was released worldwide in 1999 and in the US in 2002. Also in 2002 the soundtrack to the animated DreamWorks film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was released in which he collaborated with Hans Zimmer composing a full-length song score.
His most recent studio album Room Service was primarily released in Canada as well as Europe September 20, 2004 and later in the US May 10, 2005. In 2005 he also issued a two CD, one DVD set, Anthology, including a compilation of songs recorded during his 25 year career.
