Bush music biography continued...
Stefani's No Doubt, however the band had a difficult time maintaining its audience in the post-grunge music scene.
Hailing from Shepherd's Bush, England, the rock quartet Bush formed in 1992 and made a huge splash in the music scene with 1994's Sixteen Stone. The band's style of scratchy vocals and fuzzy guitar rock was a perfect fit for the grungy alt-rock music scene that had exploded in the wake of the success of Nirvana and the so-called "Seattle Sound." Often, the members of Bush were decried as imposters, with critic claiming they had stolen their chops from Nirvana and the Pixies, polished the edges and topped the whole thing with a pretty-boy frontman. Radiohead faced similar accusations early in its career, but outgrew them with a string of challenging, experimental albums.
As is often the case, music fans disagreed with the critics and Bush found great success with songs such as "Everything Zen" and "Comedown," as well as neatly juxtaposed ballads such as "Glycerine."
The group's 1996 follow-up effort, Razorblade Suitcase, found the credibility-challenged band trying out a less-polished sound aided by the production of the legendary (or perhaps infamous) Steve Albini, known for his work with the Pixies and Nirvana among others.
In addition to an ill-advised remix album (Deconstructed), Bush released the electronic-tinged album The Science of Things in 1999, resulting in singles "Letting the Cables Sleep" and "The Chemicals Between Us."
The poorly received Golden State followed in 2001.
Bush disbanded in 2002.
Members of Bush have pursued various side projects since the band's split. Maintaining the highest profile, Rossdale took a shot on his own with a Bush side-project called Institute, as well as a solo album, WANDERlust, in 2008. Rossdale also appeared in acting roles in films such as the Keanu Reeves flick, Constantine, and the heist comedy, How to Rob a Bank.
