Carla Bruni music biography continued...

on December 23, 1967, in Turin, Italy, Bruni moved to France with her family in 1975. As heiress to the fortune created by the Italian tire manufacturing company CEAT, Bruni didn't have to work, but work she did, signing with City Models at age 19. In 1997, she quit the world of fashion to pursue a career in music. She sent some songs she had written to French singer Julien Clerc in 1999, based on which he composed seven tracks on his 2000 album Si j'étais elle. In 2002, her debut album, Quelqu'un m'a dit, produced by ex-lover Louis Bertignac, was released in Europe with success in French-speaking countries. Several of the tracks on the album went on to be featured in such American movies as Conversations with Other Women (2005) and (500) Days of Summer (2009), bringing international exposure to Bruni as a singer and songwriter. In 2005, she performed a duet with French singer/guitarist Louis Bertignac on the song Les Frôleuses. She followed with her sophomore effort, No Promises, which contained famous poems set to music, in 2007. Although she married Sarkozy in 2008, Bruni did not give up on her musical aspirations. She released her third album Comme si de rien n'était (As If Nothing Happened), in July 2008, with all proceeds going to charity. Following a performance at New York City's Radio City Music Hall for Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday, she got to work on her fourth album, a reported collaboration with Lenny Kravitz. She continues to record and perform where her state duties allow.
