Cartel music biography continued...

consisted of vocalist Will Pugh, guitarists Joseph Peppers and Nic Hudson, bassist Ryan Roberts, and drummer Kevin Sanders. Cartel released an initial EP that caught the ear of the California-based Militia Group label. Militia signed Cartel, and the Ransom EP reappeared under Militia in 2004. The label then released Chroma, Cartel's full-length debut, in September 2005. The album cracked the Billboard Top 200 chart, with the label giving them credit for meshing 'loud, bombastic guitars with pretty melodies and rock arrangements that demonstrate an acute sense of pop songwriting." Chroma put Cartel on the Alternative Press's 2005 list of "Bands You Need to Know". In March 2006, they were also named Yahoo! Music's winner in the "Who's Next" competition and a Breaker artist by AOL music. In April 2006, Cartel signed to Epic Records, moving up from The Militia Group. The band's big breakthrough came in May 2007, when they participated in the American version of the reality show Band in a Bubble. In the show, Cartel were challenged to write, record and produce a full length album in the 20 days while living inside the bubble, while fans were allowed to access 23 strategically placed web cameras 24/7. The band met the challenge, releasing their single "Lose It' on iTunes and Napster, the same day they left the bubble. With their growing popularity, you can be sure that fans won't let them go back into any bubbles anytime soon.
