Cassandra Ventura, better known by her stage name Cassie, is the fresh, new pop/R&B singer heating up the charts and stirring up the media. Whether the attention revolves around the controversy regarding her vocal ability, or her sexually suggestive unreleased music video, the young entertainer has nonetheless become an instant celebrity.

he currently leads. She unexpectedly fell upon a music career at the age of sixteen when she worked with producer Ryan Leslie to record a song for her mother’s birthday. The finished product, a duet called “Kiss Me” greatly impressed Leslie who immediately played the track for major music executive Tommy Mottola. A few weeks later she was offered a management deal with Mottola and immediately began recording her debut album with Leslie as her producer. She eventually signed a record deal with Diddy’s Bad Boy label.

Cassie’s first single, “Me & U” was released on iTunes in May 2006 gaining immediate attention with its catchy yet simple beat. The hit track quickly climbed the charts peaking at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In July, a low-budget unreleased video for the single appeared on YouTube which created a negative outburst due to its overtly sexual nature and crudeness. The video was not intended to be seen by the public as Cassie had purposely filmed a cleaner version to be aired on television to maintain her image. To make matters worse, Cassie’s true vocal ability was questioned following several of her television performances where she appeared to be lip-synching. She further defended her undeserving performances blaming her stage fright which she claims she is working on to improve.

Her eponymous album was issued on August 8, 2006 debuting at number four on the Us Billboard 200 chart. Her follow-up single, “Long Way 2 Go” is to be released with an accompanying music video.
