with 1954's "(Bazoom') I Need Your Lovin.'" The tune, which peaked at number fifteen on the U.S. charts, was one of the first hits written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and was one also one of the first rock and roll hits by a white group (after The Crew Cuts and Bill Haley and the Comets). In 1955, The Cheers followed up with "Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots", a song about a wild-living leather-jacketed motorcyclist, which went to number six on the charts, and gave fans something to cheer about.
