Christopher Maurice Brown was born May 5, 1989 in Tappahannock, Virginia. Brown was a music lover at a young age as he was introduced to his parents' classic favorites, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. He later got into hip hop and discovered his singing talent. Brown was noticed by local music producers at his father's gas station. Through their connections with bigger labels, Chris was flown to New York and immediately signed with Jive Records.

His self-titled debut album, Chris Brown, was released November 29, 2005. The song "Run It" became a hit single reaching number one in the US, Japan, and Australia. The second successful single was "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)"which climbed to the top 10 in the US. Chris Brown sold 1 400 000 in the US and was certified Platinum. Brown co-directed the music video for both "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" and "Gimme That" which is his third single featuring Lil' Wayne.

The 16 year old singer has also appeared on the UPN television show One on One in March of 2006. He is also rumored to be in an upcoming dancing movie Steppin' along with fellow young R&B star Ne-Yo. Brown also aspires to eventually own a record label as well as start a clothing line. He is currently working on his second album which is to be expected October 2006.
