Chris Cornell music biography continued...
on July 20, 1964, Cornell's music career didn't take shape until he was a teenager, playing drums in a cover band. After dropping out of high school , Cornell formed the band with two Illinois transplants-- Hiro Yamamoto (bass) and Kim Thayil (guitar). Eventually, they would add Matt Cameron on drums and Cornell would take over the vocals/songwriting for the group, which became known as Soundgarden. The groundbreaking band would go on to be Seattle's first grunge outfit and one of the first band's from Seattle's underground to sign with a major label, A&M Records. After some lineup changes Cornell and the band went on to record some of rock's most popular albums including 1991's Badmotorfinger, 1994's Superunknown, and 1996's Down on the Upside. After Soundgarden broke up in 1997, Cornell recorded some solo work, but then joined up with the remaining members of another band, Rage Against The Machine, to form another outfit called Audioslave. The band's self-titled debut arrived in November 2002 and went multi-platinum. The follow-up, 2005's Out of Exile, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and was followed by the platinum-selling Revelations in 2006. Cornell left the band that same year, citing the usual "irreconcilable differences," and forged on with his solo career, issuing 2007's Carry On, a sprawling work which included a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" and proved just how talented Cornell is as both a vocalist and lyricist.
Cornell worked with super-producer Timbaland, on his next album Scream, which was tentatively scheduled to be released on November 2008, but had been pushed back to 2009. Timbaland has referred to the recording sessions as "The best work I've done in my career," and predicted that Cornell will be the "first rock star in the club". Cornell called the new album "a highlight of my career." That's high praise is a career that has been full of highlights.
