Tomlin's recording career took shape 2001, with the release of his debut album, The Noise We Make. A large portion of Tomlin's initial fanbase grew from the listeners he was reaching through his frequent performances and prayer meetings at Harvest Ministry at The Woodlands United Methodist Church in Texas.



Unlike some Christian music artists who have attempted to adjust their sound to fit contemporary pop standards and score hits by crossing over into more mainstream music territory, Tomlin has remained outspokenly Christian in his lyrics, making him a favorite among devout audiences.



Tomlin's talents have earned him several Dove Awards (a Christian music version of the Grammy), including the prestigious Artist of the Year Award twice (2006 and 2007).



While he has had success as a recording artist, Tomlin's biggest success may in fact be as a composer, with his songs ranking among some of the most popular songs for groups to cover or sing during worship meetings and events.



As a recording artist, Tomlin has scored a number of chart-topping hits, including "How Great is Our God," "Holy is the Lord" and "Forever."



In 2008, Tomlin reportedly parted ways with the Austin Stone Community Church where he had performed frequently and announced plans to relocate to a new church in Atlanta.
