Corey Hart Biography (Continued) |
orida. His parents divorced when he was 11 requiring the young Hart to travel frequently to visit his father in Bahamas. Corey made his record debut at the young age of 13 with a version of Paul Anka’s song “Ooh Baby” on United Artists Records in 1974. Unfortunately the single was not successful and the young singer returned to Montreal to further search for an opportunity. He eventually signed a contract with EMI Record’s Aquarius label and began recording his premiere album First Offense. The album generated two Top 20 hit songs, “Sunglasses at Night” and “It Ain’t Enough”. His first performance was opening for Culture Club in Toronto in 1984.
His follow-up album Boy in the Box in 1985 was also a success featuring the smash hit “Never Surrender” becoming his highest charting single peaking at number one in Canada and number 3 in the US. The song also earned the Top Single Juno Award and was nominated for a Grammy Award. His next release was Fields of Fire in 1986 which marked the beginning of his slow decline in popularity. He eventually departed from Aquarius in 1991 and moved to Sire Records, however the move did nothing to help the sales of the new record Attitude and Virtue. Hart was out of the picture for a few years until his comeback self-titled album in 1996 which experienced a Top Ten hit in Canada with “Tell Me”. Two years later he released Jade, an album he considers to be his best effort yet.
