Dan Balan music biography continued...

Inferalis as a teen. In 1999, he and Inferalis lead singer Petru Jelihovschi formed O-Zone, a pop rock boy band. Writing and producing all of the tracks on O-Zone's debut album, Dar, unde, esti, Balan was now the leader of a band that became hugely popular in his own country. In spring 2001, Balan got Arsenie Toderas and Radu Sarbu to join the band. That fall, two songs were released in Moldova "Numai tu" and "Number 1". The next single was "Despre Tine," which became number and sold 100 000 copies. The very next single "Dragostea din tei", (aka Numa Numa song) brought worldwide success. The single was number 1 in 27 countries and sold 8 millions copies worldwide. The song was eventually covered by over 100 artists worldwide in 12 different languages. In 2004, Balan decided to venture closer to his rock roots. He chose the best musicians in his region and moved with them to Los Angeles in 2005. Although Balan wrote the compositions prior to the formation of the Dan Balan project, it took two years to get a signature sound and their own captivating style. He asked acclaimed producer Jack Joseph Puig (John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, No Doubt, The Black Crowes, Rolling Stones) to produce his 2006 self-titled album.

Balan shocked fans in 2007 by introducing his alter ego "Crazy Loop" to the world with the Eurodance flavored song "Crazy Loop (Mm-Ma-Ma)." The video, directed by Marc Klasfeld, was filmed in Los Angeles, CA and released throughout Europe in October 2007. The following month, Balan also released a Crazy Loop album called The Power of Shower. The song "Crazy Loop" became all the rage, and affirmed Balan as that rare blend of the exotic and accessible.
