Dane Cook Biography (Continued)

connected to thousands of fans around the nation who had seen his act, or performances in high profile movie comedies.
Cook’s first comedy album, Harmful If Swallowed, and was released in 2003. The ardent fan base that he had developed online propelled Dane's CD/DVD to over 230,000 units sold in less than two years, garnering appearances on 5 different Billboard charts on numerous occasions since its release. Dane Cook routines on the album included “Speak ‘N Spell,” “Operation Monopoly” and “The BK Lounge.” Originally, Cook also had a bit lampooning the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, but he took the piece off the album because he was veering away from getting laughs at the expense of other celebrities.
2005’s Retaliation was the second album released by Cook. The CD set contained a recorded concert done by Cook at The Comedy Connection in Boston, Massachusetts. The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, which was the most successful comedy album debut since Steve Martin's A Wild and Crazy Guy in 1978. It went Gold six days after its initial release and Platinum on November 30, 2005.
At the end of December 2006, Cook released "I'll Never Be You" his first single. In the song, Dane refers to himself as a normal person ("My life stands still, watching where your life goes"), commenting with envy ("sometimes I picture myself beating you up") at a celebrity or otherwise popular person. He was named in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of 2006 and had his first HBO comedy special in that year as well. A student of observational humor, there’s every reason to believe that Cook will get even more material from his widening exposure.
