Richard, and Wanita "D. Woods" Woodgette, united to form Danity Kane.
The group's unusual name was inspired by an anime character created by Richard.
The group was greatly benefited by the guidance, and connections, of founder/mentor, Sean Combs (a music star/entrepreneur known professionally as P. Diddy, Diddy, Puffy and Puff Daddy, etc.). The group is signed to Combs's Bad Boy record label.
Danity Kane's self-titled debut album was released in 2006 and launched the singles "Ride for You" and "Show Stopper." The album was certified platinum shortly thereafter.
Musically, the group works the same territory as the Pussycat Dolls, making them a fun experience offering less-than-substantial music.
The group's sophomore effort, Welcome to the Dollhouse, debuted in March of 2008, after hitting the charts with lead single, "Damaged."
