Even though a controversial lack of votes ended Chris' Daughtry’s run for the American Idol crown in year 5, the resilient rocker bounced back to form his own band and fulfill the expectations of his legions of Idol fans. On July 10, 2006 it was announced that Chris had signed with 19 Entertainment and RCA Records, which holds contracts with fellow American Idol finalists Kelly Clarkson, Bo Bice, Kellie Pickler and Katharine McPhee. Daughtry’s self-titled debut album was released in November 2006. The disc reached #1 for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, outsold Idol winner Taylor Hicks' debut effort, and sold more than 3 million copies. Their album was also the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan history, behind Daughtry songs written and co-written by Chris himself. The first single from the album, "It's Not Over", was the eighth most played song across all formats on U.S. radio in 2007, and their second single from the album, "Home", was the tenth most played song in the U.S. of 2007.
“I began my music career as a songwriter,” Chris has been quoted as saying,” but I've always believed in the power of a band. The great moments are when you're able to capture that extra special connection between members that you can't really define. That's what I'm striving for.” The North Carolina native has definitely accomplished this as his band has been playing to sold out audiences ever since January 2007. They have done shows across the U.S. and Canada, along with a show in the UK over the summer. They have also opened for such top tier acts as Nickelback and Bon Jovi, proving that being accomplished musicians is the sweetest revenge.
