he met the Coughee Brothas and joined with them and others to form Odd Squad, a group of rappers signed to Rap-A-Lot Records. Their debut album, Fadanuf fa Erybody!!, was released in 1994 with "I Can't See It" as the lead single and video. Although the effort garnered critical praise, it was not a commercial success and the group split up with Devon contemplating a solo career. He went on to release The Dude in 1998 and despite lack of publicity, it earned Devon a huge underground following and an invitation from Dr. Dre to contribute to the song "Fuck You" on Dr. Dre's 2001 Chronic album. Devon's performance on that tune was so strong that it resulted in invitations to perform with other rappers, not to mention his own sophomore effort, Just Tryin' ta Live, released in the summer of 2002. Devon followed with To tha X-Treme (2004), Waitin' to Inhale (2007), and Landing Gear (2008). Devin the Dude has become what many call a cult favorite in underground hip-hop. Ever so faithful to his Odd Squad/Coughee Bros roots, his latest releases are proof that like fine wine, he just gets better with age.
