she began writing songs for Hank Williams Jr. and Skeeter Davis in 1965. Her first full length album came out in 1967 called Hello I'm Dolly. Soon after, Parton joined Porter Wagoner on a country music TV program. The two began writing songs together and recorded their first single, "The Last Thing on My Mind." The single was the first of a dozen duet hits that's scored big on the Top Ten U.S. charts.

Parton continued to make writing successful songs throughout the 70's. Her mix of country with folk hit big with many country music fans. " Coat of Many Colors" and "Jolene" are known as some of Parton's best work. Parton stayed at the Wagoner show and continued to record duets with him for seven years. Parton released another solo record in 1974 called "I Will Always Love You" which quickly went number 1 on the country charts.

After making several television and movie appearances, Parton recorded again in 1987. She released a trio album with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, which was critically claimed. The album went on to stay five weeks at the number 1 Billboard Country Albums chart. The trio also won a Grammy for the Best Country Vocal Performance. Throughout the 90's and early 2000's Parton released a string of bluegrass albums which also won Grammy awards. Patron is still known in musical circles as the Iron Butterfly for her resilience and beauty.
