Drake started his acting career in 2001, when he was cast as the character of Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation. In February 2006, Drake released his first mixtape, Room for Improvement, on his MySpace page. Positive buzz led to the release of his second mixtape Comeback Season to much critical acclaim. His first real breakthrough came when he was tapped to work with Lil Wayne on a remix of the already popular song "Man of the Year." In 2008, he released Heartbreak Drake, another popular mixtape release which helped him gain more critical acclaim and buzz. After the minor success of Heartbreak Drake, Drake collaborated on a mixtape titled, Thomashow Time, which featured his friend and fellow rapper Thomashow. So Far Gone, which featured Drake's mentor Lil Wayne, and members of Young Money, was released in 2009. By the end of June 2009, "Best I Ever Had," a promotional single, had climbed to number two on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. As Drake prepped a proper debut album called Thank Me Later, his fans continued to hang on his every beat.
