writer relationship. The duo's first single that was successful was "I've Been Loving You" which was later released on John's American debut, Elton John. John's first hit song did not come until 1971 when he recorded "Your Song." This single showed John's talent for writing melodious, sentimental ballads. John became the first act since the Beatles to have four albums in the American top 10 simultaneously.
With the release of Honky Chateau, John reached far outside the box and dominated the Top 10 billboard charts. Some of the singles that reached the top ten were, "Rocket Man," "Crocodile Rock," and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." Honky Chateau was the first of seven extremely successful albums.
John was also known for stirring up constant controversy. John famously announced his bisexuality in 1976 in Rolling Stone Magazine, which caused a tremendous uproar in the music world. He then faced a short period were he had personal battles with bulimia and drug problems. John rebounded with the 1983 hit, "I'm Still Standing," an ode to his battle with drugs. John continued to release hit records throughout the 80's and 90's. John was also a strong supporter for the AIDS epidemic and started Elton John AIDS foundation which donated 100 percent of its earnings to AIDS research and prevention.
