Emmy Rossum music biography continued...
Rossum started taking advantage of New York's cultural opportunities at an early age. After passing an audition at the Metropolitan Opera when she was 7 years old, she performed in more than 20 operas in six different languages at Lincoln Center, alongside such figures as Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. She was directed by Franco Zeffirelli in "Carmen." She left the opera when she entered her teenage years, as she had grown too tall to perform as a child, and started carving out a successful niche for herself as television and later film actress. This period in her career culminated with roles in Clint Eastwood's Mystic River and in Andrew Lloyd Webber's film version of Phantom of the Opera (2004), where she demonstrated both her acting and singing skills, and establishing her as a double threat.
After her role in The Phantom of the Opera, Rossum was offered several deals to record classical albums, but refused, opting to create an album of contemporary, more mainstream music. The album, produced by Stuart Brawley, was titled Inside Out and was released into stores in October 2007, with clips available on her Myspace page. For the promotion of the album, Geffen Records also feature her album's single, "Slow Me Down", as part of the second volume of Hollywood Records' Girl Next compilation album. Rossum has said she doesn't consider herself an opera singer, but as a "light, lyrical soprano," and while her album is pop oriented, she doesn't want anyone to talk about it in the same breath as Britney Spears.' I was inspired to cut this album because I'm so frustrated listening to the radio these days. There is so little emotional honesty," says Rossum. We're sure that Emily Rossum will bring the honesty back to the recording industry.
