and played local gigs around the London club scene. The Yardbirds was Clapton's first serious band he had joined in 1965. After a brief stay with the band Clapton moved on to start his next band in 1966, Cream. With Bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker, Clapton could perform his virtuoso style with solo jams that fans loved. While in Cream, Clapton laid down guitar rifts on the Beatles famous, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

Cream broke up in 1968 which lead Clapton to his next venture, Blind Faith. During his time with Blind Faith Clapton began jamming with his tour opening acts Delaney and Bonnie and soon after jumped on their bandwagon. In 1969 Clapton recorded some songs with the legendary John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band.
Later that year Clapton with the help of several Bramlett's band members recorded his first solo debut. On Eric Clapton he established himself as a lead vocal artist, not just a guitar hero. "After Midnight" was Clapton's biggest hit in the U.S. as a solo artist. When Clapton began recording with Derek and the Dominos rock & roll history was made. The group released the infamous, "Layla," which will go down as one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

Clapton ran into trouble during the early 70's with a heroin habit that left a burden on his career. After kicking his heroin addiction, Clapton began recording with a new sound, of more laid back commercial rock. Through the late 70's and 80's Clapton recorded numerous hits including "I Shot the Sheriff," "Lay Down Sally," and "I've Got a Rock 'n' Roll Heart." Clapton toured throughout much of the 90's but was struck by tragedy when his four year old son died falling 50 stories from a Manhattan apartment building. After taking several years off Clapton taped an MTV segment, "Unplugged" and was nominated for nine Grammy awards. Clapton recorded through the late 90's releasing albums with B.B. King and solo albums as well. Clapton's longevity comes from his unbelievable talents with the electric guitar.
