One of the most popular Italian pop singers of his generation,
Eros Ramazzotti has left an indelible impression on the international popular music scene. Born in the suburbs of
Rome on October 28, 1963, Eros had dreams of being a pop star from his youth, when he started penning his own tunes. In 1981, he took part in a music contest called Voci Nuove di Castrocaro (new voices) with a song "Rock 80" which he wrote himself. enato Brioschi, who guided him to the popular San Remo Festival, where his song "Terra Promessa," won the competition for the category of "Newcomer". Released Europe-wide, the song was just what Eros needed to launch his career. By 1986, with the release of his second album, Nuovi Eroi, Eros won the San Remo Festival again behind the power of his song, "Adesso Tu.”
Although Eros released a string of albums in the late eighties and early 90s, his world wide success wouldn’t come until the summer of 1995, when he performed at international festival along with such stars as
Rod Stewart,
Elton John and
Joe Cocker. A year after, in 1996 his album Dove c'è Musica was released. The 7 million figure in sales of Dove c'è Musica was enough to say the 33 year old had captured the hearts of many in the world. The following year, a collection of his hits went on selling well over 7 million copies world-wide emphasizing once again how beloved the Italian pop-star is without even appearing in the charts of any English-speaking nation. By November 2005, Eros had released ten albums, which were all sensations in
Europe. All in all, Eros is the most successful Italian singer and songwriter of all time and is adored not only in most non English-speaking European countries but also in most of the Spanish-speaking world as he has released most of his albums in both Italian and Spanish. It’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world discovers the magic that is Eros.
