The Everly Brothers are one of the most influential vocal groups in Rock & Roll history. Don and Phil Everly were born into a musical family growing up with country star parents, Ike and Margaret Everly. After touring the South and Midwest with their family, the duo was soon hired by Roy Acuff’s publishing company. The duo took their success on the road with a small band, wearing matching suits and haircuts. While at Cadence Records the group averaged a Top 10 single every four months. The Everly Brothers number one hits included “Wake Up Little Susie” and “Bird Dog.” When the group left Columbia Records for Warner Bros, their record sales reached a total high of $35 million. In 1962, the Brother’s popularity ended with their last success, “That’s Old-Fashioned.” Although the band’s fame in the U.S. declined, the Everly’s continued their success in England.
After a rough patch during the 70s, the Everly Brothers returned onstage at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the Reunion Concert. The Everly Brothers continued to tour and record throughout the 80’s and 90’s. In 1986, the duo was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and has inspired many musicians throughout their generation.
