Fall Out Boy music biography continued...
came together in suburban Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, around 2001. The group consists of vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz, drummer Andrew Hurley, and guitarist Joe Trohman. They debuted with a self-released demo in 2001, following it up in May 2002 with a split LP (issued on the indie Uprising label) that also featured Project Rocket, for which Hurley also drummed. The band remained with the label for the release of a mini-LP, Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girl, after which major labels started to take interest. Fall Out Boy eventually signed a deal with Fueled by Ramen, and released Take This to Your in May 2003. The album garnered some positive reviews and led to gigs at South by Southwest and various other tour appearances. Fall Out Boy's breakout album, From Under the Cork Tree, followed in spring 2005, quickly reaching the Top Ten of Billboard's album chart and spawning two Top Ten hits with "Sugar We're Going Down" and the furiously upbeat "Dance, Dance." The album went double platinum and earned the musicians a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. They toured extensively, supporting the album with international performances, arena dates, late-night television appearances, and music award shows. Thus, in a few short years, FOB received the mainstream recognition that some bands struggle for years to attain.
Without taking a break, FOB started work on a follow-up album working with Under the Cork Tree's Neil Avron and Babyface. The result was 2007's Infinity on High, whose title was taken from a line in one of Van Gogh's personal letters. Powered by the hit single "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race," the album continued Fall Out Boy's streak, debuting at number one on the Billboard charts and going platinum one month later. Not content to rest on their laurels Fall Out Boy next went to work on a live album, which was released in 2008, as well as their full-length studio effort Folie à Deux. Fans who adore Fall Out Boy certainly hope they can maintain this pace into the millenniums second decade.
