Faron Young Biography (Continued)

for t~lI1S to read about their favorite star and get a backstage glimpse of the goings on in Nashville. But music was the real force in Faron Young's life and it all started back in the early 1950s.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1932, Faron Young followed in the footsteps of the great Hank Williams as one of the most popular of the "honky-tonk" style of country singers and landed his first six singles in the top ten. "Goin' Steady" at #2 in 53' would start the ball rolling followed by hits like "If You Ain't Lovin [you ain't livin'] and his first #1 in 54',"Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young" . The 1950s saw Faron land thirty chart hits including the #1 smash's "Alone With You" and "Country Girl'•. He became one of the longstanding members of the Louisiana Hayride and was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry}' as well. A stint in the Army did little to stop his success and upon his release in 54 his career really began to take off. He appeared in several country movies and soon became known as "The Young Sheriff'. He began to record more pop oriented country songs and in 1961 he took a song from a young songwriter named Willie Nelson and "Four Walls" not only became a #1 for nine weeks on the country charts but landed at the # 12 position on the pop side. While it would be his last chart topper of the 1960s he continued to place top twenty hits with regularity throughout the decade. As the 70s dawned, Faron Young was still a major country star and his first ten singles of the decade all placed in the top ten including his last # 1 "It's Four In The Morning" in 72'. He was a constant on country television and continued to invest in business ventures around the Nashville community. Throughout the 70s and into the 80s he continued to record and though the top 20 was no longer in reach for artists of his generation, he remained one of the most popular entertainers in country and his live performances were still magic to his fans.
With the dawning of the 90s and Faron Young now reaching his 60s, the years of excessive smoking took it toll upon his health and his struggle with emphysema kept him away from the stage and the recording studio. As depression took a deeper hold on him he committed suicide in December of 1996 with a self inflicted gunshot. The country music world lost one of its true legends and pioneers and in 2000 he was elected Lo the
Country Music Hall Of Fame, an honor long overdue and highly deserved. This collection contains many of the biggest hits in the career of Faron Young, one of the most gifted artists in the history of country music.
