Five music biography continued...
1997, Five consisted of British lads Scott Robinson, Ritchie Neville, Jason 'J' Brown, Richard 'Abs' Breen and Sean Conlon. In November 1997, the band released their first single in the UK, "Slam Dunk (Da Funk)", which debuted at #10, but made few inroads in the US. The boy band's first major international hit was 1998's "When The Lights Go Out", which cracked the US top 10 and earned gold status there. The subsequent debut album peaked at Number 27 in the US, and topped the charts in other countries worldwide, including the UK, powered by such singles as "It's The Things You Do", "Got The Feelin'", "Everybody Get Up", and "Until The Time Is Through." Reaching the top 5 in different countries around the world, the latter two singles each rose to the number two spot in the UK, proving that Five had the talent to make an indelible mark in the world of boy band mania.
In August 1999, the first single of their second album, Invincible, the catchy dance tune "If Ya Gettin' Down", was released and became a major hit worldwide. Finally in October 1999, after three consecutive number-two peaks, "Keep on Movin'" became their first UK Number 1, as well as their biggest selling single to date. The second album hit the top five shortly thereafter. "Don't Wanna Let You Go" was released in early March 2000, peaking at Number 9. In March 2000, Five opened at the BRIT Awards with rock legends Queen, performing an updated version of that band's hit, "We Will Rock You". That night Five won their first BRIT Award, as "Best Pop Act", and their cover of the Queen song went on to become their second Number 1 in the UK in July 2000. After a subsequent huge world tour, Five started recording tracks for their third album, Kingsize, which yielded another #1 single, "Let's Dance, in August 2001. However, band members were growing restless, and the group disbanded in September 2001. After a brief comeback in 2006, Five called it a day, content to rest on their hitmaking laurels.
