more. The rapper was born on December 16, 1979 in Carol City, Florida, under the name Tremar Dillard with the hip hop vibe already in his blood. He formed his own rap group at 9 and at 15 years old became acquainted with his sister's boyfriend who worked as a hype man for 2 Live Crew's Luke Skyywalker. In 2001, he followed in the footsteps of his brother-in-law by becoming the hype man for 2 Live Crew's Fresh Kid Ice. The exposure and relentless promotion led to his on record contract with the Poe Boy/Atlantic label. In December 2007 Flo Rida released his debut album Mail on Sunday. The first single off the album was a song called "Low," which featured T-Pain. On Billboard Hot 100 chart, the song went from #91 in the first week to #64 before finally taking a big leap to #4. In its fourth week, the single held strong to the same position despite new competitors that kept turning up. Radio outlets gave heavy spins of the song and its digital download on iTunes rocketed. Flo Rida's hard work had paid off and critics proclaimed that he was a leader in the next generation of hip hop stars.
In early February 2008, Flo Rida's second official single "Elevator," produced by Timbaland and Halil "Outlaw" Akarsu" received early airplay from pop, rhythmic & urban radio stations and on February 12, 2008 it was released as a digital single, quickly zooming to the top of the download charts. On the week of June 7th 2008, "We Break the Dawn" featuring Flo Rida debuted at #47 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play in the first week and in second week it debuted at # 38. While performing, Flo Rida is said to captivate his audience with tales from the hood some of which he has seen and experienced. His experiences are channeled through a medium, music, which everyone from all backgrounds can relate to. He is determined to emerge as a leader and an inspiration to those in his old neighborhood and beyond and with the powerhouse Poe Boy label behind him, it's only a question of time before Flo Rida becomes a hip hop icon in his own right.
