The band The Foundations.was founded by island singer Clem Curtis. Curtis came to the U.K. in 1965 from the island of Trinidad. Curtis was first an amateur boxer, winning fourteen of his seventeen fights. After realizing he had an ear for music, Curtis meet up with musicians in London. It was in London were Curtis became the lead singer in a new band that opened their own coffee shop called the Butterfly a. Curtis and the band played to entertain customers.
