Frank Sinatra music biography continued...
Tommy Dorsey in 1939, the group reached commercial success. Over the next two years Sinatra was featured in sixteen Top Ten Hits, which later led to Grammy Hall of Fame honors. Sinatra also made his first two films: Las Vegas Nights in 1941, and Ship Ahoy in 1942.
In 1943, Sinatra was given his own radio show, The Frank Sinatra Show which brought him even more attention. Later that year Sinatra was signed by MGM music and released several popular cover songs. By 1945, Sinatra was paired with Gene Kelly in Anchors Aweigh which became the biggest movie of the year. Sinatra continued on with his radio show called Songs by Sinatra. Throughout the next several years, Sinatra scored eight more Top Ten hits, and continued working on successful movies. After moving to Capitol records in the early '50s, Sinatra again had commercial success with "I'm Walking Behind You." Sinatra also scored a role in the World War II epic From Here to Eternity, in which he won an Academy Award for best supporting actor.
Sinatra continued putting out classic hits during the '50s with songs by Cole Porter, the Gershwin's, and Nelson Riddle. In 1955, Sinatra hit number one with "Learnin' the Blues" and "In the Wee Small Hours" which again led to Grammy success. Sinatra continued to appear in television and record albums through the '50s, hitting multiple Top Ten singles. The '60s again was proven successful for the extremely hard working Sinatra.
Sinatra had a tremendously successful career with over 50 years of recording. Sinatra appeared in over a dozen films and won both Grammy Awards and Academy Awards. Sinatra died of a heart attack at the age of 82. Sinatra's legacy will live on through his timeless music and unprecedented reputation.
