The Fugees formed in the late 80’s, though they wouldn’t find success until the mid-nineties with their second major label release – The Score. Consisting of Lauryn Hill, Prakazrel Michel and Wyclef Jean, the Fugees were able to balance a commercially acceptable sound with insightful commentary on the urban landscape. The Fugees took their name from the term “refugees”, in reference to Wyclef Jean and Prakazrel Michel’s Haitian heritage in the US.
