of Kris Coombs-Roberts (guitar, backing vocals), Gavin Burrough(bass, backing vocals), Ryan Richards (drums), Darran Smith (guitar) and Matthew Davies-Kreye (lead vocals). The band recorded four tracks at Mighty Atom Studios for a proposed self financed EP with another Welsh band From This Moment On. Upon hearing the tracks, Mighty Atom Records approached the band and offered a two album deal, resulting in their debut EP, Between Order & Model (2002). In 2003, Funeral for a Friend recorded their second EP, Four Ways to Scream Your Name. In mid 2003, behind extensive touring, the band won their first Kerrang! magazine Award, winning the award for "Best UK Newcomer" through a popular vote, and putting FFAF officially on the map.
In October 2003, after recording for the duration of the summer, Funeral for a Friend's full-length debut album, Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation, was released to much critical acclaim, and it yielded three Top Twenty hits-- "Juneau" (#19), "She Drove Me to Daytime Television" (#20) and "Escape Artists Never Die" (#19). To support the album, Funeral for a Friend embarked on a series of high-profile touring engagements, including a series of European dates opening for Iron Maiden. In June 2005, the band released their second album, Hours, through Atlantic Records. More touring followed, including the band's first stint on the Warped Tour. In the same year, they were voted "Best British Band" by the readers of Kerrang! The band followed up with Tales Don't Tell Themselves in May 2007, after which they jumped on the road for headlining dates in the U.K. and U.S. before spending summer on the Warped Tour. They issued their next album, Memory and Humanity, in 2008. The album offered, as one critic put it, "the band's familiar mix of emo-influenced songcraft and anthemic rock uplift." Or, in other words, exactly what fans expected.
