Good Charlotte Biography (Continued) |
found in the 70s punk movement and the sentimental ballads found in mainstream rock, Good Charlotte soon made a name for itself on D.C. radio and in the local clubs. In 2000, the band released its spirited self-titled debut on Epic, and the song "Little Things" became a minor sensation, leading to a permanent gig on MTV’s late-night rock show All Things Rock. This promotion helped the band's profile greatly, and they spent time behind the scenes writing songs for their next album.
Good Charlotte’s breakthrough came in fall 2002, with the release of their sophomore effort, The Young and the Hopeless. The album contained such chart topping Good Charlotte songs as "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” “"The Anthem", "Girls & Boys", "Hold On" and "The Young & the Hopeless". The album eventually went on to receive a 3x Platinum certification (3 million copies sold) from the RIAA. During the course of the album's success, Good Charlotte landed appearances on Saturday Night Live, CNN, and The Today Show, the covers of Rolling Stone and Alternative Press magazines, and were also featured in The New York Times. n 2004, Good Charlotte returned with The Chronicles of Life and Death, which hit number three on the Billboard charts, but failed to sell as well as the band's previous album . Their follow-up album, Good Morning Revival, debuted in the top 10 of thirteen countries worldwide including the U.S., giving the band some of their highest international chart positions thus far.
Although Good Charlotte has experienced several line-up changes through the years, it is clear that in all their incarnations this is a band to be reckoned with. Good Charlotte will remain on the alternative scene for many years to come redefining pop punk with every new album.
