In 1987, Eric, Gwen's brother started the famous band No Doubt with friend John Spence and asked Gwen if she was interested in joining as a co-vocalist as well. Later, another member joined the group, Tony Kanal.

Sadly, John Spence committed suicide allowing Gwen to become lead singer. During this time, Gwen graduated high school and continued on to Cal State Fullerton College. Eventually, two new members joined the band. They caught their big break when the bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded a demo which led to their signing with Interscope Record.

Although their first album did not do well their second album released in 1995, The Beacon Street Collection, gave the record company confidence in them again which they had lost after the release for the first album. No Doubts third album, Tragic Kingdom, which was also the last album Eric Stefani was involved in, created lots of buzz, especially with the singles "Just A Girl" and "Don't Speak". "Don't Speak" was actually written about Gwen and Tony's 7 year long relationship. It later went on to become number 1.

No Doubt then released another album in 2000 entitled Return of Saturn and another one in 2001 entitled Rock Steady.

Her first solo project was her album Angel. Love. Music. Baby. And has sold over 7 seven million copies worldwide especially with its widely popular song, "Hollaback Girl." Recently, Gwen released her second solo album called The Sweet Escape.

She is married to Gavin Rossdale, the lead singer of Bush. The two have a son together.
