Heart music biography continued...
Columbia, where bassist Steve Fossen and brothers Roger Fisher and Mike Fisher formed a band. Initially dubbed the Army, they later became White Heart. In the early 70s, the creative sparks behind the group, sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, joined on, and the name of the group was officially changed to Heart. After gaining a following in Vancouver, Heart was signed to Canadian label Mushroom. Rounded out by keyboardist Howard Leese and drummer Michael Derosier, they recorded their debut album, Dreamboat Annie, in 1975. A minor success in Canada, the album, when released in the US quickly achieved platinum certification on the basis of the hit singles, "Crazy on You" and "Magic Man." In 1977, Heart signed with the CBS affiliate Portrait, and the band released its follow-up Little Queen, which yielded the hit single, "Barracuda" another huge hit, which also drove Queen platinum. After a sales slump in the early 80s, Heart came back in 1985 with a self-titled effort that ultimately sold more than five million copies on its way to launching four Top Ten hits -- "What About Love?," "Never," the chart-topping "These Dreams," and "Nothin' at All." 1987's Bad Animals continued their comeback success; "Alone" was another number one hit, and both "Who Will You Run To" and "There's the Girl" achieved significant radio play as well. Brigade, released in 1990, featured the number two smash "All I Want to Do Is Make Love to You," capping nearly fifteen years on the charts.
In the early '90s, the Wilson sisters took a brief hiatus from Heart to form the Lovemongers, an acoustic quartet, while Heart, with a changed lineup continued to record. Though Greatest Hits albums were issued, Heart went on hiatus by the late '90s, as the Wilson sisters concentrated on the Lovemongers. But in 2004, the band reunited and recorded Jupiters Darling, released on Sovereign Artists. Having sold over 30 million albums worldwide, Heart continues to perform at select events to this day. In May 2007, they were honored at the second annual VH1 Rock Honors as #57 on the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock," taking their place in rock deities.
