music world.

Born in 1960, Hugh John Mungo Grant appeared in several smaller roles prior to rising to prominence in indie film scene of the '90s thanks to acclaimed films such as the bittersweet romantic romp, Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Just as Grant's charm was beginning to win over American audiences (and actress/model Elizabeth Hurley), in 1995 Grant became tangled in a life-altering tabloid frenzy centered on his arrest for dealing with prostitute Divine Brown in Hollywood.

His mugshot graced as many newstands as any supermodel and made him the punchline for an endless array of late-night talk show monologues, thus relegating him to a relatively low-profile for the next few years.

Grant returned to the spotlight with the popular Bridget Jones's Diary, conveying much of the sharp wit and unlikely charm that he displays off-screen to swoon-inducing effect. Similar roles followed, including those of Notting Hill and the critically-acclaimed About a Boy.

In 2007 Grant starred with Drew Barrymore in Music and Lyrics, a poorly received romantic comedy (surprise!) about a washed up singer and his new partner. The film found Grant taking a turn behind the microphone to sing some of his character's pop songs.

While he continues to excel at light, romantic-comedic roles, Grant is quick to vent his feelings about the silly nature of acting as a profession and the celebrity culture in general. Even so, he continues to charm audiences around the world, if not critics.
