Jaime Camil music biography continued...
Said Camil de Saldaña da Gama in Mexico City on July 22, 1973, Camil is the son of a rich Mexican businessman of Egyptian descent and a talented Brazilian singer from Ipanema. He began his career singing in bohemian clubs along with the famous Cubans like Amaury Guitierrez and Pancho Céspedes. His father wanted him to be a businessman, but Camil felt the tug of show business. He studied opera and theater and one day went to a radio station to record his first demo, ending up instead as a producer. He worked on "El Show de Jaime Camil", for USA network, and Que Nochecita! for TV Azteca. That notoriety helped get him a lot of high-profile help on his debut album, 1999's Estar Contigo, which included compositions by Pachy Lopez, Rudy Perez, Hal Batt, Claudia Brant, Eduardo Osorio, and Javier Rios. Support of the album took him to major cities in Mexico, South America, and the United States, making him an even bigger star. After participating in Tributo a las Víctimas del 9/11 (2001), Camil released his second album, titled Una Vez Más. Although it was a success, Camil later decided to pursue work in the telenovela industry, where he made his debut in Mi destino eres tú (2000). Camil went on to star in several musicals in film and television, including Mambo Kings (2005) and Aladino (2008). He also performed on Broadway in Latinlogues (2005), reminding fans that he is one of Mexico's most multi-talented exports.
