Jason Aldean music biography continued...

by his mother in Macon, Georgia. As a youngster Aldean taught himself to play country songs on the guitar by listening to artists on the radio and started to compete in local talent contests. At 15, he joined the house band at the Macon nightspot Nashville South, and as he grew older began playing with the band in college towns all up and down the eastern seaboard. In 1998, he performed his original songs at a showcase staged by the Atlanta nightclub The Buckboard and from that was signed as a songwriter by Warner-Chappell. He moved to Nashville on Nov. 1, 1998, at age 21. A month later, he was offered a recording contract. When that didn't pan out, he signed with another label immediately afterward. That deal was aborted, too, and Aldean was set to give up and leave Nashville when he met industry veteran Lawrence Mathis. Mathias would become his manager and score him a record deal with independent label Broken Bow Records. His first single, "Hicktown", was released in early 2005. It served as the lead-off to his album Jason Aldean, and reached a peak of #10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Aldean released his self-titled debut album for the label in 2005. The album also produced his first number one hit in "Why", as well as the #4-peaking "Amarillo Sky". Jason Aldean also sold more than one million copies in the United States, and was certified platinum by the RIAA, signaling that Aldean had at last arrived.

Aldean spent most of January 2007 in the studio with producer Michael Knox to finish his second album, Relentless. The album's lead-off single, "Johnny Cash", was released in mid-2007, peaking at #6 on the country charts; its follow-up, "Laughed Until We Cried", has become his fifth consecutive Top Ten hit. "Luckily for me, things worked out," Aldean has said. "I mean, it went from looking really bad to looking really good." Aldean fans couldn't be happier.
