Jeffrey Steininger on November 15, 1986 in Orange County, California, Star began experimenting with his model mother's makeup at a young age. He would go on to become make-up artist to the stars, at the same time building his own outlandish presence in the Los Angeles clubs by dying his hair in day-glo colors and cross dressing. Star gained real fame, however, by blogging about his life and posting photos of himself outrageously dressed and made-up on MySpace. In November 2006, he was recognized as MySpace's most connected profile personality.
His MySpace friend base has since grown to over 632,000 as of October 2007 with each new photo shoot getting over 50,000 comments when posted. Star's music career as an electronica and hip-hop vocalist began when he befriended the drummer of the electronica group Peaches who encouraged him to try his hand at music.

His first two tracks Straight Boys and We Want Cunt, (named in tribute to his former screen name Cunt: Queen of the Beautifuls) were co-written with Hole and one time Mötley Crüe drummer, Samantha Maloney and singer Jessicka from Scarling. Star's MySpace page was subsequently converted into a music page.



In March 2007, Star released his first EP, Plastic Surgery Slumber Party. Immediately, it debuted March 20, 2007 at #1 on iTunes's dance charts and "has consistently topped the iTunes dance charts at #1, hovering high above household names such as Justin Timberlake and Cascada." To date, Star's MySpace page has had an impressive 25 million listens off Plastic Surgery Slumber Party. Star announced in late 2007 that recording is underway for an album titled Beauty Killer. The first single, "Heart Surgery Isn't That Bad..." has already been released. Other confirmed tracks include "Mascara + Mistakes = Murder", "Cupcakes Taste like Violence" and "Somebody's Watching Me." Says one observer: "The Queen of the Internet is not afraid. Not afraid of conflict. Not afraid of provocation. Not afraid of owning beauty and glamour. When Jeffree Star looks into a mirror, the exact person who should be there is looking back." His fans think so, too.
