Jennifer “J. Lo” Lopez has proved herself as a successful businesswoman thriving in the film, music and fashion industry. She has the undeniable ability to market anything she creates turning it into an overnight success. From her breakthrough film role as Tejano sensation Selena to her powerful music debut On the 6, J Lo has made herself a prominent fixture in the media.

lessons. After dropping out of college she worked at a legal office during the day and performed her dancing abilities in Manhattan clubs at night. Her dancing passion led her to become a “Fly Girl” dancer on the television show In Living Color in 1991. Soon after she was given the opportunity to become one of Janet Jackson’s backup dancers and made an appearance in her video “That’s the Way Love Goes”. However, prior to embarking on Jackson’s world tour, she realized that she would instead prefer focusing on her acting aspirations.

As an actress, Lopez appeared on several television series such as South Central, Second Chances and Hotel Malibu. She eventually moved on to star in the films, My Family, Money Train, Jack, and Blood and Wine. Her major film breakthrough was playing the role of Selena Quintanilla Perez in the 1998 biopic of her life. One year later her anticipated debut album, On the 6, was released. The first single “If You Had My Love” raced to the top of the charts peaking in the number one spot, while the second single “Waiting for Tonight” placed in the Top Ten. The album proved to be a surprising success selling 3.7 million copies, making Jennifer and instant celebrity. The follow-up, J. Lo appeared in 2001 debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. The album featured the hit singles “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”, “I’m Real”, and “Ain’t it Funny”. Also in 2001, she starred in the movie The Wedding Planner, and is the first actress and singer to have her movie and album both place first in the same week. J to that L-O!: The Remixes was issued in 2002 purposely in the hopes of capitalizing her already monstrous success. It consisted mostly of hip hop remixes of her hits featuring rappers 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, P.Diddy and several others.

On November 26, 2002, she issued her third album This Is Me…Then which generated the hit singles “Jenny from the Block” and “All I Have” featuring LL Cool J. Lopez took a break from her music career to focus on film starring in Gigli, Jersey Girl, Shall We Dance, and Monster-in-Law. She returned in 2005 with her fourth album entitled Rebirth. Although it debuted in the number two spot on the Billboard 200, it was unable to maintain its high position quickly falling off of the charts. The only hit to emerge from the album was “Get Right”. In February 2006, she was featured on the LL Cool J track “Control Myself”. Jennifer is scheduled to release the Spanish album Como Ama Una Mujer in October 2006.

Aside from music and film, Lopez has made several business acquisitions such as her clothing line JLO by Jennifer Lopez, a restaurant in Pasadena, California named Madre’s, a signature line of fragrances, and an upcoming clothing line labeled Sweetface.
