Jesse McCartney music biography continued...
was born on April 9, 1987, in Ardsley, New York to parents that encouraged him to sing and act. By age 7 he was performing in community musicals and by 11, moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career. McCartney soon became lead singer in the youth group Sugar Beats, formed by Sherry Kondor, the daughter of Carole King. McCartney performed on four Sugar Beats CDs: How Sweet It Is (1998), Wildthing (1999) and Car Tunes (2000), all of which won music awards. In addition Jesse has two solos on the 2001 CD, A Sugarbeat's Christmas. (His solos are Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and Little Saint Nick). In 1999 McCartney landed a roll in the boy band Dream Street, which released a debut album that reached number 1 on the Billboard independent Album Charts and soared to platinum sales. Dream Street's songs also appeared on the soundtracks for Pokemon 2000 and The Little Vampire, but the group split up soon afterward.
McCartney released his first solo EP in July 2003. The album featured three songs: "Beautiful Soul", "Don't You" and "Why Don't You Kiss Her". In 2004, he performed a duet with Anne Hathaway, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", which was featured on the Ella Enchanted soundtrack. His first full-length solo album, Beautiful Soul, which was two years in the making, was released on September 28, 2004. The album featured four songs co-written by McCartney: "That Was Then," "Get Your Shine On", "What's Your Name", and "She's No You", as well as songs written by Desmond Child and Chris Braide. The title song reached #2 on AOL Music and the "Beautiful Soul" music video performed well on MTV's Total Request Live, having been voted into the top 10 fifty times, and peaked at #4. The album, having sold over 5 million records, has achieved platinum status. McCartney followed up with two more successful albums Right Where You Want Me (2006-7) and Departure (2008), achieving everything he had ever dreamed of before his 25th birthday.
