to play guitar at 12 and was filling in for session musicians in London by the time he was a teenager. In 1966, he joined the Yardbirds, a band featuring vocalist Keith Relf, bassist Chris Dreja and drummer Jim McCarty. After the band split in 1968, Page recruited vocalist Robert Plant and drummer John Bonham to form the New Yardbirds. When John Paul Jones also signed on, the band became Led Zeppelin, which became the most popular hard rock outfit of the 70s and the prototype for all other bands that would follow in the genre. Zeppelin issued a string of classic albums from 1969 through 1975 -- Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti -- which spawned such classic rock radio standards as "Dazed and Confused," "Whole Lotta Love," "Immigrant Song," "Black Dog," "Stairway to Heaven," and "Kashmir." As a producer, composer, and guitarist, Page was one of the driving forces behind Zeppelin's success. The band continued to release albums until the dawn of the 80s, but when Robert Plant's young son died and Bonham succumbed to an alcohol related death, the grieving band decided to call it quits, bringing to an end one of rock's most fabulous runs.

Page went on to form another group called the Firm in 1984. But after two successful albums, the Firm disbanded, and he was free to pursue a solo career. In 1988, Page released his solo debut, Outrider, which featured former Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant and drummer Jason Bonham, the son of late Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. In 1994, Plant and Page finally agreed to collaborate once again, leading to the release of the acoustic set No Quarter the same year, plus a highly popular MTV Unplugged special and sold-out world tour. A year later, Led Zeppelin was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. As a result of public demand, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, as well as John Bonham's son, Jason Bonham played a charity concert at the O2 Arena London in December 2007. Since that time, Page has been heavily involved in re-mastering the entire Led Zeppelin back catalogue, eager to expose a new generation of fans to the classic Zeppelin oeuvre.
