Johnny Paycheck , also known as Donald Eugene Lytle, was a country-rock pioneer. Paycheck began performing with country music star George Jones in the late fifties. One of the first songs he had written, “Once You’ve Had the Best,” was a success. With his tenor voice Paycheck was featured on songs by Faron Young, Roger Miller, and Skeets Mcdonald. Paycheck began getting his name out as a tenor- country singer with a unique vocal ability.

Paycheck’s personal problems came back to haunt him when he was convicted of shooting a man in 1985. After two years in prison he finally filled for bankruptcy in 1990. After battling emphysema and asthma, Paycheck passed away in the early '90s leaving a tumultuous legacy behind.
