Jon Secada music biography continued...
his family to Miami, Florida in 1971. He sang in college theatrical productions, and then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami. One of Secada's demo tapes wound up in the hands of Emilio Estefan, and soon Secada was writing and performing as a backup singer for Gloria Estefan and other performers. Secada co-wrote several songs on Gloria Estefan's 'Into The Light' album including 'Coming Out Of The Dark' and performed in Gloria's 'Into The Light World Tour'. He soon signed to SBK Records and launched his own career with a self-titled debut record in 1992. Yielding the hit singles, "Just Another Day," "Do You Believe in Us", "Angel" and "I'm Free," Secada became an overnight solo sensation. He was now a huge English-language pop star, but at the same time he became one of the hottest Latin artists recording in the '90s; Otro Día Más Sin Verte (a Spanish-language version of "Just Another Day) was Billboard's number one Latin album in 1992 and won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. Secada's second English-language album, Heart, Soul & a Voice (1994), sold over a million copies. Amor (1995), his second Spanish-language album, won him another Grammy, and brought him to the peak of his recording career.
In 1997, Secada came out with the album "Secada," which turned out to be a commercial disappointment. As a result Secada left his label for Sony Music's Epic Records where his first duties included writing songs for label mates Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez. In 1999, he did his "Greatest hits" and its Spanish version "Grandes Exitos." The same year, Secada co-wrote the song "Bella," the Spanish version of "She's All I Ever Had" for Ricky Martin's 1999 Multi-platinum self-titled album. He also co-wrote and co-produced the song "Baila" for Jennifer Lopez, which appeared on her 1999 multi-platinum album, On the 6. In 2000, Secada came back on Epic with his own hit, "Stop!" off the album Better Part of Me, giving notice that he was back as a solo artist to stay.
