Josh Groban music biography continued...
born in Los Angeles, California, on February 27, 1981. Both of his parents were musically gifted and encouraged Groban's growth in the arts. In school, he focused on musical theater, but then Groban's vocal coach introduced him to the talented music producer David Foster, whom he began working for as a rehearsal singer. After standing in for Andrea Bocelli to rehearse "The Prayer" with Celine Dion at a Grammy awards rehearsal, Groban's star began to rise. Foster approached him with the news that executives at 143 Records, a joint venture between Foster and Warner Brothers, were interested in signing a record deal, Groban took the plunge with his 20001 self-titled debut album which featured a blend of contemporary rock and pop tunes along with classical music in English, Spanish, and Italian. The album was heavily promoted through performances on television, including the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, when Groban was heard by an estimated 1.6 billion people around the world and became a household name. The album ultimately reached double platinum in sales. On November 11, 2002, Josh released his second major album, Closer, which would become a four time platinum album in the United States.
In November 2004, Groban's second live DVD, Live At The Greek, was released. It also ran as a Great Performances special on PBS. Also in 2004, Groban performed 'Remember When It Rained,' backed by a full orchestra, at the American Music Awards where he was up for Favorite Male Artist in the pop category. Groban and his recordings were nominated for more than a dozen awards in 2004, including the American Music Award, World Music Award, Academy Award, and a Grammy. His third studio album, Awake, was released in 2006 and contained the hit single "You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)." There appears to be much more ahead for the boy with the "bottomless lungs." When asked by where he sees himself in ten years, Groban replied, "I'd like to be able to say that I put my foot in a little of everything, but that I did it intelligently." There can be no doubt he will.
