Keith Murray music biography continued...
September 13, 1974 in Central Islip, New York to parents who were both intravenous drug users and died while he was still a child. Murray found music as a salvation and got work as an MC using the stage name MC Do Damage. Through his MC gigs he was introduced to Erick Sermon of EPMD. Sermon agreed to feature Murray on his album No Pressure on the single "Hostile". Murray quickly established himself as one of the most inventive lyricists in the industry with his first album The Most Beautifullest Thing in This World, released in 1994 on Jive Records. Murray's second album Enigma was released in 1996 on Jive. It received excellent reviews from critics, but it was not quite as commercially successful as the previous album. Still, Murray had established himself as an up-and-coming rap star.
In 1998 Murray turned himself into authorities for a criminal incident that had occurred in a bar a few years earlier and was sentenced to spend five years in prison. He actually came out with an album while in jail, and upon his release after 33 months switched from the Jive label to Def Jam. His fourth album, He's Keith Murray was released in 2003. That same year, Murray was featured on the video game Def Jam Vendetta, further raising his profile. He released his fifth solo album Rap-Murr-Phobia in 2007. It debuted at number 52 on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling about 13,000 copies in its first week. The lead single was "Nobody Do It Better" featuring Tyrese & Junior. Murray's problems with the law have continued, but so has a recording career that demonstrates true promise. If he can stay out of trouble, there's no telling what he can accomplish.
