star as a young child and formed her own band by the time she was in her late teens. However, her career as a songwriter took off first, when she met and collaborated with producer Anthony Dent (Destiny's Child, Diddy), who introduced her to a host of stars in the industry. Throughout high school she wrote or did backup vocals for such artists as Usher, Ludacris, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, and up-and-coming Southern rap producer Polow da Don. Hilson wound up writing for Polow da Don, who introduced her to Timbaland, who in turn signed her to his label, Mosley Music in 2006. Over the next few years, Hilson, songwriting as part of "the Clutch" team turned out such hits as Mary J. Blige's "Take Me as I Am," Omarion's "Ice Box," the Pussycat Dolls' "Wait a Minute," and Ciara's "Like a Boy." While working on her own debut album, In a Perfect World..., with Timbaland, Hilson found time to appear on appearances on Timbaland's solo effort, Shock Value where she featured heavily on the singles "The Way I Are" and "Scream" and the tracks "Miscommunication" and "Hello".
She also played the lead role in Usher's music video for "Love in This Club", (as well as co-writing its "Pt. II" remix) and appeared as one of the "independent women" in Ne-Yo's music video for "Miss Independent," demonstrating the good will she had generated throughout the industry.



In 2008, Hilson released a promotional video for her song "Where Did He Go" and her debut album and she went on to further promote herself as a solo artist on "Get It Girl", a track produced by Timbaland & Danja and recorded for a Verizon ringtone promotion. After being pushed back several times, Hilson's debut album is scheduled to appear in 2009, with such expected hit singles as "Energy" and "Return the Favor." With several years of paying her dues in the trenches, Hilson is now poised to be a singing phenomenon in her own right.
