Formed in Bakersfield, California, Korn rose to fame as part of the early '90s alt-metal/nu metal movement alongside the Deftones and Limp Bizkit.

Korn music biography continued...

A unique delivery that combines death-metal-ish guttural shouts and screams, with semi-spoken word lyrics and gibberish noises, Davis's style has influenced a wave of imitators including Disturbed, Powerman 5000 and various rap-rock groups.

Building a large fanbase through constant touring with bands such as Marilyn Manson, Megadeth and Ozzy Osbourne, Korn slowly found success on MTV and alt-rock radio.

In 1997 Korn founded its own record label, Elementree, and in 1998 the band founded its own large-scale tour called Family Values. Something of a mini-festival tour, the shows featured several top-name rock acts of the time opening for Korn, including Limp Bizkit, Orgy, Staind and Filter.

The band's third album, 1998's Follow the Leader, was an undeniable success, spawning massive hits such as the MTV favorite "Got the Life" and the Grammy-winning "Freak on a Leash."

After over a decade together, the band experienced its first line-up change in 2005 when original guitarist Brian "Head" Welch shocked fans and departed the band to pursue his newfound interest in Christianity. Drummer David Silveria left the group two years later.

In 2007 the band released and unexpected, and perhaps unnecessary, collection of acoustic songs performed on MTV's Unplugged.

The band's most recent album, Untitled, failed to garner the same praise from critics or fans that earlier releases had received.

In addition to winning two Grammy awards, Korn has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.
