Kristen Chenoweth music biography continued...

Kristi Dawn Chenoweth in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, on July 24, 1968, Chenoweth found her love for song at church, where she belted out hymns louder than the rest of the congregation combined. At the age of 12, she sang in front of the entire Southern Baptist church, and found that she loved the experience. Music and performing soon became her passion. She turned down a scholarship to study voice when she was cast in an Off-Broadway show in New York City, and followed that performance up with a series of stage roles, before breaking out in a performance as Sally in the Broadway show You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. The role won her a "Best Featured Actress in a Musical" award at the 1999 Tonys and established her as a rising star of the stage.

Soon after her success on Broadway, Chenoweth hit the sound booth to produce an album of standards from the '40s. Let Yourself Go was released in 2001, and featured the diminutive star showing off her impressive range with a number of Broadway classics. She also performed in several concerts with state symphony orchestras, including the Washington Symphony and Virginia Symphony. Chenoweth also landed some plumb roles on television, but in 2004, following a successful concert at Carnegie Hall, she returned to the studio to record her second album, As I Am, which was released in April of 2005. She also received another Tony nomination for her performance as Glinda the Good Witch of the North in 2004's smash hit Broadway musical Wicked. Afterward, Chenoweth began working in film, but continued to lend her voice to a variety of productions for the stage and screen. The plucky little girl from small town Oklahoma has certainly seen her star rise on the world's largest stages, demonstrating that dreams can, indeed, come true.
