consisted of James Mead on guitar, Nathan Stuart (AKA Stu) on bass, Kyle Mitchell on drums, Ryan Shrout on guitar and Jon-Micah Sumrall on vocals. They released their first full-length album in 2002 off BEC Records and it spawned the singles, "Your Touch" and "Run", which would go on to hold the record for the longest charting song in the history of the R&R Top 40 charts. In 2004, after releasing their second full-length album, Sea of Faces, Kutless would go on their first headlining tour, X 2004. That same year, the band was slated to perform at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece, but could not make it due to the fact that their airline flight was cancelled. In 2005, Kutless released their first worship album, Strong Tower, after which there were lineup changes. The band came back with 2006's Hearts of Innocence, and later that year saw their profile rise when the NBC TV show "Scrubs" featured a Kutless tune called "All the Words" from Sea of Faces. A marketing frenzy ensued in which the band found their songs and videos involved in cross-promotions with everyone from Wal Mart to Suzuki Motor Corporation. In May 2007, longtime Kutless guitarist Ryan Shrout decided to leave Kutless to care for his daughter who was diagnosed with a rare eye disease. He was replaced by Nick De Paratee at about the same time that Kutless' songs "Hearts of Innocent" and "Beyond the Surface" became available on a Christian Guitar Hero game. In fact, Kutless had already become known as Christian guitar heroes.
