had been born in London, though Baiyewu lived in Nigeria for ten years before returning to attend college in the north, where he met Tucker. Both Baiyewu and Tucker were working in bars when they first met; together, they recorded demos of a number of songs Tucker had written during the late 1980s. Among these, a demo of "Ocean Drive" attracted the attention of Polydor Records A&R director Colin Barlow, who, in 1993, signed the band to a six-month development deal. During this time, they recorded the singles, "Ocean Drive" and "Lifted." Their first album, Ocean Drive, was released in 1995, but it wasn't until two years later that "Lifted" became a British top 5 hit, propelling the album to double platinum status in England, with success following throughout Europe as well. A year later, the Lighthouse Family released Postcards From Heaven, followed by Whatever Gets You Through the Day (2001), Greatest Hits (2002) and The Very Best of Lighthouse Family (2003). While the duo has since split up to pursue solo projects, they remain open to working together in the future, a great sign for the group's many fans.
